Friends of the Parks mourns the death of Michael Scott
Michael Scott served as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Chicago Park District for over a decade, first as a commissioner and then as the President of the Park District Board. As President of the Park District, Michael Scott was committed to making Chicago’s parks and children’s playgrounds the heart centers of the neighborhoods. Mr. Scott valued all citizens and the work of park advisory councils. He deeply respected all who came before him to testify on a park issue.
During his tenure, Friends of the Parks received a Lila Wallace – Readers Digest Foundation grant to restore the Garfield Park Conservatory in the Garfield Park neighborhood. Friends of the Parks tapped Michael Scott to serve as the President of the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance. Michael’s leadership was effective and focused and was critical in the successful work of restoring the Garfield Park Conservatory and returning it as a programming and educational center for the community.
Michael was a leader in every way. He was compassionate, thoughtful and respectful of people from every walk of life. Chicago is a better city because of the work of Michael Scott.
Friends of the Parks will miss him. Our prayers are with his family.
