Community Service Days

Friends of The Parks works with corporations, universities, schools, athletic clubs, environmental organizations, community groups, and interested individuals to organize exciting, fun and rewarding community service day projects.

By working together, your organization can complete a range of park enhancement projects that include:

  • Tree mulching
  • Garden planting
  • Lagoon restoration
  • Paint enhancement projects

With over 500 parks to choose from, Friends of the Parks will work with your organization to select a park that meet your organization’s needs. Volunteers generally choose a half-day or full-day project during the months of March through November.

How will my organization benefit from a Community Service Day?

Participating in a community service day project provides a unique setting for your organization’s next service day. Not only will it promote team building, individual and community leadership, but also it will be a fun and challenging way to spend the day! Your organization may also want to host picnic, informal meeting, or recognition ceremony at one of Chicago’s beautiful parks.

What is Friends of the Park’s role in organizing a Community Service Day?

In coordinating a fun and successful Community Service Day, Friends of the Parks:

  • Identifies the park location and project that meets the needs of your company
  • Arranges the work activities for the day
  • Acts as a liaison with regional staff at the Chicago Park District or the Cook County Forest Preserve District
  • Provides access to necessary tools and supplies required for the project
  • Shares up-to-date information of the project and its relevance to the community to show the importance of your work
  • Ensures a fulfilling experience at one of Chicago’s treasured parks
