Park Advisory Council Guidebook
Friends of the Parks has produced a Park Advisory Council Guidebook to assist citizens and park activists in becoming more effective advocates. Please check back soon for access to the soon-to-be-released guidebook.
Park Advisory Councils (PAC) are the community voice for their neighborhood park, children’s playground, beach or natural area. PAC’s make a real difference in their parks, whether they are creating a garden, fundraising for a new playground, hosting special events, sponsoring a recreation program or advocating for improved services in the park.
Park advisory councils are open to anyone who is interested in getting involved with their park. Park advisory councils work with the park supervisor or other staff in the Chicago Park District to make long and short term plans, plan park events and guide the park district in choosing activities and events that best suit the neighborhood park.
Friends of the Parks has been partnering with PAC’s for over thirty years to improve their parks, through the model of the park advisory council. To learn more about what a park advisory council is and how to start a park advisory council in your neighborhood, download our guidebook.
Friends of the Parks is available to help you establish a park advisory council. Please call Jill C. Heise at 312-857-2757, ext. 17 or email her at heisej@fotp.org
