Neighborhood Parks
Through our Partnerships and Advocacy in Neighborhood Parks program we strive to increase community involvement in the planning, design and operation of neighborhood parks and open spaces, empowering individuals and their neighbors.
Our strategies involve working with community groups and park advisory councils to clearly identify issues, develop outreach and connections with government officials, and provide technical assistance through workshops and one-on-one meetings. We monitor the Park District budget, and look for ways to provide fair and diverse distribution of programs throughout the city. We support and encourage local citizen groups and park advisory councils to become and stay engaged in the process of park improvement, with the goal of empowering them to navigate through the bureaucracy, and become effective park advocates. In many ways, we combine our work in community organizing to affect public policy.
