Junior Board

The Junior Board hosts several fundraisers through out the year and they also get their hands dirty by volunteering to do park clean ups.  Also, the Junior Board Members have the opportunity to serve on the Seed Grant Committee, which awards grants to local parks to fund their projects.

The Friends of the Parks’ Junior Board is Recruiting New Members!

Friends of the Parks is revitalizing its Junior Board.  We invite you to apply to be a member of this important group of leaders.  The Junior Board is a group of dedicated young professionals who are passionate about preserving and protecting Chicago’s parks and forest preserves.

Through Junior Board experience, members will gain valuable networking and leadership skills, while drawing inspiration from other environmentally conscience individuals.

The Junior Board is a great opportunity to get involved, meet people and give back to the community.

About Friends of the Parks

Since 1975, FOTP has increase private and public commitment to Chicago’s parks through establishing park advisory councils, developing new parks, renovating playlots, and presenting public workshops and lectures to create and informed citizenry.

Purpose of Friends of the Parks Junior Board

The Friends of the Parks Junior Board is a group of young adults who want to support and promote the mission of FOTP. Junior Board members show their support through fundraising events, community visibility and volunteer work. Also, Junior Board members have the opportunity to network, gain leadership experience, and become invested in the Chicago community.

Why should I join the Friends of the Parks Junior Board?

  • Support an organization that is committed to protecting and preserving Chicago’s parks and forest preserves.
  • Network with young professionals who are committed to a greener, more sustainable future.
  • Be part of a revamped junior board with opportunity to serve in leadership roles from the start.
  • Develop your leadership skills with potential to join the FOTP’ Board of Directors in the future.

What would I have to do as a Friends of the Parks Junior Board member?

  • Commit to and support the mission of Friends of the Parks and environmental issues.
  • Volunteer for one of the following Junior Board committees:
    • Policy Committee (team would liaison with board policy committee)
    • Marketing Committee (team would liaison with board marketing committee with specific focus on how to target young adults and attract younger members?)
    • Fundraising and Special Events Committee (Golf Fundraiser, Earth Day, National Public Lands Day, Seed Grant Review, etc)
  • Attend 75% of meetings (9 of 12 per year)
  • Sell tickets for fundraising events that support Friends of the Parks.
  • Ability to make an annual contribution of $50.
  • Commit to a one-year term with the option to continue involvement after the first term.

  • Submit a paragraph on why you are interested in becoming involved, what you hope to gain and what activities you would like to see FOTP organize.
